Super Saturday Shenanigans

First things first, we finally found out who will be pitching for the Marlins tomorrow in the place of injured Andrew Miller: Graham Taylor. Oh, and Logan Kensing was designated for assignment – not surprised. When he walked onto the mound tonight in the 10th, I felt uneasy.

I can’t take any more of this drama! My birthday is a month from today, but I already feel like I’ve aged after yesterday and tonight’s games! I try to put my personal feelings aside, and I am able to be professional, but it’s killing me inside when it comes down to 9th inning comebacks and rallies etc.

It was another gorgeous night for baseball though – now the windows in the press box are closed, to keep that awful Albita Super Saturday music out as much as possible. All I can think about when I see her on the big screens now, is that horrible commercial where she mouths something in Spanish that I don’t understand, raises her hands, and winks. If you’ve seen it, you know what I’m talking about, and if you haven’t, consider yourself lucky.

Between the NFL draft and Heat playoffs tonight, there are at least two seats on either side of me, so I was quite lonely in the press box. It’s ok though, I had a lot of work to do today, especially pre-game. There were a few packages I was working on this weekend, and I’ll upload in the next few days – limited time because the Marlins go on the road Monday for another week, and a few of my subjects were in the visiting clubhouse.

I was able to score an interview with Chase Utley, which I heard is not easy to do. He’s not the most talkative guy, but very nice non-the-less. Plus I’ll fatten up that video package with some John Baker sound – keep an eye on the video page for the feature.

I cover more Marlins-Phillies series than any other series because I go on the road to Philly, and because I do so, I know more about the Phillies players as well (excluding the fact that I am from there). Last year I spoke with Greg Dobbs about T-Shirts he created with inside jokes in the clubhouse. I saw one recently on the Internet that had a picture of Matt Stairs’ face, and said: “In case of emergency, use Stairs.”

Clever, right? I thought maybe he was behind this, but he said unfortunately he was not. He said he has yet to get motivated this season, but if he’ll try to think of one by the next series at the end of May.

Also dating back to last year, Jayson Werth used to always notice my toe nail polish – how creative my color choices were, and how I coordinated my wardrobe with it. I made sure to pick a special color this weekend, to see if he would remember this. He was the first guy I saw when I walked into the visiting clubhouse yesterday. He saw me, smiled, said hi, and then looked directly at my toes. Peppermint Patty is the color – kind of a minty green. He was concerned that I wouldn’t have more clothes to match the rest of the weekend; I chuckled and said, “don’t worry, I unfortunately have a shopping addiction.”

Anyway, I draw attention to this because I’ve noticed over the last two years covering the Marlins especially, that the guys take note to things such as wardrobe, shoes, and my nail polish. Though, the nail polish I choose isn’t the normal pinks so I guess I’ll ease off them for that. Metro tendencies? Not sure, but because they do notice, I feel pressure every day when I get ready to come to the ballpark – not only do I have to be up to date on my sports knowledge and have my interview ideas organized, but I have to be overly aware of my wardrobe.

I guess that goes with being a female in a mans-world. I can handle it; in fact, it amuses me to an extent. Cheers to no more drama in the final game of the series tomorrow! I should just sleep here; I have to be back at the park in 9 hours…
